In these days leading up to our Church’s upcoming mission trip to Pearlington, Mississippi, I find it increasingly difficult to stay focused on the task at hand. One minute I’m making phone calls to get the best price on “Large-Print” Bibles and the next minute I’m looking through my notes, organizing logistical matters. I’m then reminded of the people that I’ll be leaving- my wife and kids (the longest I’ll have been away since Caleb’s birth), a church family where trials don’t stop simply because I’m out of town, and a host of other odds and ends that seem to feel the typical day.
As I reflect on my own inability to stay focused on what I’m doing, I am reminded of the importance of “Keeping Focus” in the Christian life. It is incredibly easy to fill our time with worthless stuff. As the title of this blog indicates, my life mission statement is to be Passionate for Christ and Obedient to Christ. Whether I’m playing with my boys or having a heart to heart with Jen, I want my family life to reflect my commitment to Christ. And in my public life, whether visiting with an elderly church member or spending time in study and prayer, or simply filling up the car with gas, my passion and obedience to Christ should be evident.
