Dear friends,

 

Thanks for regularly praying for us.  I only have a moment for a quick update.

 

This past week has been one very similar to the one coming ahead of me- trying to do a lot of catching up.  We are going through a rather significant re-organization in the IMB and it is creating for us some new and interesting challenges administratively.  That said, God is continuing to work here in Peru and we are thankful to see His hand in our ministry here.

 

I do ask you to pray for our family’s health- Jenny still has a lingering “pregnancy” cold and Elijah is under the weather.  He has had a fever for the entire weekend- though he still is playing a decent bit during the day.  To round out the family, Luke has the same cough that Elijah had a few days ago.  I ask you to pray for them.

 

Finally, pray for me tonight as I will be preaching tonight at a small baptist church on the other side of Lima.  I had planned for the whole family to come, but it appears now that I’ll be flying solo tonight.

Dear Friends,

 

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Thank you for praying for us.  The last two weeks have been both busy and joyous!  As I mentioned in my last prayer note, we had a great time with the team from Union Grove working in La Nueva Rinconada.   We saw souls saved and a good bit of interest in the prospect of starting a church.  It was a good week and the Lord blessed us in many ways. 

 

This past week, I had the opportunity to lead a team from First Baptist of Kyle, Texas, to a small town a few hours outside of Lima called San Mateo.  When we arrived, we found they were celebrating a quasi Catholic, quasi pagan festival.  It is always sad to see pictures of Jesus paraded through the streets by a host of drunken people.  I am pleased to report that the team did get to see some fruit as they found many open doors for future ministry and even saw a couple of young people come to faith in Christ.  I enjoyed getting to know the team and working with them.

 

Jenny and the boys have done well during this two week period though I think my being home again is a welcome presence.  We are looking forward, as a family, to returning to Santa Rosa this coming week to continue the ministry we are doing in that area. 

 

Here are a couple prayer requests for this week:

 

• I will be preaching in Jicamarca this coming Sunday night.
• Homeschooling is going great.  Pray that Caleb’s education continues to progress and the other boys continue to pick up new information.
• Pray for Jenny and baby Hope.  Jen’s strength to do all she does while pregnant amazes me!  Still, I know it is taxing on her physically.
• Pray for Miguel, Tito and Darwin.  I hope to have contact with each of these men this week.  Tito for the purpose of discipleship.  The other two for the purpose of further sharing with them the difference between religion and a personal relationship with Jesus.

I just sent this email to our prayer partners:

Thank you for continuing to pray for us. 

 

Last week was a great week with the team from Union Grove Baptist Church.  Souls were saved, many contacts were made and the gospel was preached to many!  We rejoice at that which God did last week.  Further, we pray that God will continue the good work that He begun there.

 

All of our health is better again.  Caleb and I are both better from a stomach bug and the other boys are doing well.  Jenny (and baby Hope) are doing great!  Jenny says she “kicks all the time!”  What a blessing!

 

Please pray for me as I’ll be leading and translating for a team from First Baptist, Kyle Texas, as they head to San Mateo, a town a few hours outside of Lima.  Pray for them as they are here on a vision trip to decide whether or not God wants them to adopt this area for future work.  Finally, pray for Jen and the boys as they will be on their own for the next week.

Dear Prayer Warriors,

 

Thank you so much for praying for us and our ministry.  We are very excited about our upcoming week of ministry with Union Grove, our home church, here to serve in San Juan de Miraflores.  We ask you to pray as they begin work in the area- especially pray for a vision for them as to how to reach out to this segment of people.  I leave to go pick them up from the airport in a couple of hours. 

 

Today has not been without its own drama.  I have had a fever since last night and Caleb woke up vomiting in his bed with a fever.  With the team coming in tonight, and the ever fear of quarantine for swine flu, I thought best that we get checked out today.  I tested negative for the flu but my lab results indicate I have something going on- we’ll know exactly what when all the results are in.  The good news is that I don’t have anything contagious and can work as planned with the team.  Caleb already appears better.  Apparently the enemy wants to distract from the work we plan to do this week.

 

Finally, pray for Tito.  I am discipling him weekly and he is scheduled to lead a bible study over the next couple weeks while I’m working in other areas.  Pray that they do meet and God speaks through him. 

 

Here are a couple of other things to remember in prayer:

• Pray for Jenny and the boys- they will be doing some work with the team as well as continuing their regular homeschooling.
• Pray for Jenny- she is 25 weeks pregnant now and chasing 3 wild boys isn’t going getting any easier.
• Pray for FBC of Kyle, Texas.  I’ll be with them on a vision trip next week after the Union Grove team has left.

Good Morning Friends,

  

I hope each of you have a blessed day worshiping our Lord today.  Thank you for praying for us and our ministry here in Peru. 

  

We have hand another good week of ministry.  As with the previous 2 or3 weeks, this past week has afforded some wonderful opportunities for ministy.  While we continue to pray for certain opportunities to open, we celebrate other openings to us for ministry.  Here are a couple of prayer requests for this week:

  

• Please pray for the people of the Santa Rosa community.  Yesterday, along with two other missionaries, we went as a family to Santa Rosa.  We have met several believers there who have recently moved to Lima and there are no churches in there community (a community of thousands).  Pray for us as we personally engage in the area and continue to research the area for potential REAP partnerships.
• Pray for Dina and Tito in Santa Rosa.  Dina cooks “Menu” (like a plate of the day) and we enjoyed her food yesterday.  She is a believer and is very excited about our presence in the area.  Tito is a man in his 30’s with a powerful testimony of redemption that has agreed to meet with me for discipleship on Mondays.  Please pray for these two persons of peace.  Especially pray for Tito to follow through on the commitment to train with me.
• Pray for Union Grove Baptist Church who will be here to work in Pamplona Alta in less than two weeks.  Pray for them to grow in their vision for ministry in the area.
• Pray for me as I will be preaching this coming Sunday at Vida Nueva Baptist Church.
• Continue to pray for Jenny and the boys to continue to do well with homeschooling.

Thank you for joining us in prayer for our life and ministry in Peru.  Here are a few prayer points for you:

• Praise God that he provided us with a wonderful opportunity to meet new national baptist partners in Jicamarca.
• Praise God for increased relationships and vision in our ministry.
• Praise God that homeschooling has gone so well so far.
• Pray for Jenny as she continues to hone homeschooling.  Specifically pray for her ability to best manage Luke and Elijah and, at the same time, effectively instruct Caleb.
• Pray for me as I prepare for a very busy month of ministry in October.  I will be preaching in two Baptist partner churches.  Additionally, Union Grove Baptist Church will be here October 9-16 to minister in Pamplona Alta here in Lima.  Further, I will be leading another church group to a village for a vision trip the week after Union Grove’s trip.

Finally, God is stirring deeply in our hearts that we must do more to impact lostness!  We know the good news of Jesus Christ and many people in the United States and Peru do not know Him.  And there are countries in the world with a fraction of the number of believers that even Peru has.  We must pray!  We must preach Christ!  People are dying without Him.  Pray for us (and yourselves!) to do whatever it takes to see souls saved and disciples made.

And thankful.

I am so proud of my wonderful wife.  While pregnant with our 4th child, she is working so hard to teach Caleb (and Luke and Elijah too).  I am blown away a just how good it seems to be going.  The boys are learning and seem to really be enjoying it.  Jenny is taking her teaching seriously.  But not too seriously.  Really, I’m just so proud of her.

I’m also thankful God provided me with a wife who loves me so much.  I can’t describe how special it is to know that I am so loved.  I am a blessed man.

Now, if I can make sure Jenny reads this post.

Life and ministry continues here in Lima.  This week has been a productive one with good research being accomplished as well as new relationships being formed.  Thank you for your continued prayer support.

 

Here are a few prayer requests this week:

• Jenny has been pretty sick this week with a cold.  Praise God that she is almost completely better.
• This past week of homeschooling went well.  Pray for the coming week.
• Pray for the people in La Nueva Rinconado and Pachacutec.  I plan to be in both areas in the coming week for research. 
• Also pray for a work we hope to start in Los Olivos.  This would be with our dear friends, Manolo and Nelsi, who are here from Chiquian to study.  Pray for us to find a location we can use as well as a good time to get together.

 

Don’t forget- prayer is not simply something you can do to remember us.  It is taking you from your living room to God’s throne room and from your prayer closet to the front lines of ministry in 3rd world Latin America!  Thank you for joining us in prayer.

Please pray for Sam Tinsley, Jenny’s Uncle. Today he is having a very serious surgery to deal with a tumor on his eye nerve. He will lose vision in one eye, may lose vision in both eyes, and it is a life threatening procedure. After many other attempts to treat this tumor, this surgery is the final effort to try to get rid of, or at least most of, the tumor.
